Deze opnamen werden gemaakt door G.T. Bakker tijdens het eerste optreden van Count Basie in Nederland op 27 maart 1954. Deze belangwekkende cd vult een hiaat in de Nederlandse jazzdiscografie. Deze cd laat de Basie-band van 1954 horen in het repertoire, waarmee het orkest de norm zette voor de big band-jazz van de jaren vijftig en zestig. Belangrijkste arrangeurs opdeze cd zijn o.a. Neil Hefti, Ernie Wilkins en Johnny Mandel

Recordings made during Count Basie’s first tour in Europe, 1954. It also was his first concert in the Netherlands. The band is well recorded during a live concert in the Kurhaus, The Hague, March 27, 1954. This cd presents the Basie band with a repertoire that determined the standard for big bands in the 50s and 60s
